Milwaukee Art Museum

2014 Mobile App

In 2016 the Milwaukee Art Museum completed their $15 million dollar addition to house their world famous collection and expand its presence on the lakefront.

In conjunction with this expansion, the museum is incorporating a mobile app developed by the App Brewery to enhance the visitor experience by creating greater interaction between the museum and its guests.

The Milwaukee Art Museum mobile app consists primarily of three parts: 'MAM Live', Playlists and a Collection Database. Upon logging into the app, users are greeted by the 'MAM Live' screen, which includes a live feed of upcoming events and exhibitions as well as a social media feed incorporating tweets, Facebook posts, and Instagram photos related to the museum.

Upon logging into the app, users are greeted by the 'MAM Live' screen, which includes a live feed of upcoming events and exhibitions as well as a social media feed incorporating tweets, Facebook posts, and Instagram photos related to the museum.

The app includes two different types of 'playlists': staff curated audio playlists, and user generated 'experience playlists'. The audio playlist will lead art enthusiasts around the museum to selected artworks within a featured genre, while the 'experience playlists' allow users to create their own roadmaps which can include artworks and locations of interest around the museum.

The collections database displays all of the pieces in the museum's collection alphabetically and can be searched or filtered based on title, artist, genre or time period. When a piece is selected, the user will be able to see an image of the piece, the history and artist details as well as the gallery location in the museum.
